Fall of the bit

The bit was once ruling King
Emperor to root controllers
coders slaves to its proportion

Run efficiently and cleanly
ever so carefully avoiding crash
to stay within bit dimensions

Its cosmos was small hindering
and it ruled with an iron rod
ruining those who disregarded it

Bit was restless in expanding
counted into kilobytes
Then the race for megabytes

The age didn't settle
arise the gigabyte
incumbent to terabyte ascendancy

Before falling prey to petabyte
a continuous surging revolution
held back on temporary physical restraint

Roll on exabyte, zettabyte and yottabyte
onwards in fractions of past time span
The all empowering future

Where information is harnessed
on individuals versus the State
a future beyond yottabyte

Where a super-fast search is made
using a supremely complex algorithm
pulling up a single result

On some distant networked planet
perhaps another solar system
linked on a complex wireless web

The Soyuz replaced by Orion projects
analogous to the once mighty bit
eclipsed by environmentally cleaner energy

Where power is consumed efficiently
the waste product becoming harmless
the future stuns science fiction

As science pushes the frontiers
just as the bit is a grain of sand
in a post yottabyte world

We are the grain of tomorrows world
The seed stretching beyond imagination
So too our world presently ahead
